Hey there, friends! So, I’m getting back to my roots this morning to share with you some fantastic smoothie goodness. Ain’t she pretty?
I recently purchased a new flavor of the reformulated Vega sport performance protein powder, and I am loving it!
Formulated by vegan endurance athlete Brendan Brazier (http://www.brendanbrazier.com/ ), the Vega line of plant-based powders and supplements in my experience has been top-notch. The formulations (and I have used many) are well-balanced and sourced, resulting in a satisfied tummy without the GI distress. Better yet, the taste is fantastic- a balanced level of chocolate-y mocha richness, without the sweetness overload. While Stevia is an ingredient, it is not a primary player on the ingredient list, making for a pleasant (rather than overwhelming) flavor with no aftertaste. Even better? The combinations of proteins sourced for this blend (including pea, pumpkin seed, alfalfa, and sunflower seed) create vegan, soy and gluten-free powder. Ok, can you tell I am crushing on this protein powder?
A post on plant-based protein sources is in the works, but in the meantime, I couldn’t wait to share this recipe with you. At 30 grams of high-quality plant-based protein per scoop, this makes the perfect post-workout treat:
8 oz cold water
Ice cubes (I like my smoothies thick and creamy)
1/2 scoop Vega Sports Performance Protein (mocha flavor pictured here)
1 tbsp. chia seeds
2 c. fresh baby spinach leaves
1/2 c. frozen blueberries
1 tbsp. flax oil (optional)
Method: Combine all the ingredients in the blender until smooth; drink up! What are some of your favorite smoothie combos?
